Forthcoming Trips

A Day in the New Forest

This is a day trip in the capable hands of a local Blue Badge Guide which will take in the attractions of the forest and the spring scenery with a main course lunch and morning coffee included in the price.

London Shopping:

No detail required here – it is a coach to London dropping off in Park Lane to allow a days unfettered shopping experience.

Brighton Dogs:

This is a repeat of the previously very successful trip to the Brighton Dog Races. This trip includes a three course dinner eaten whilst watching the racing. There is the opportunity to place bets at your table. This has previously proved a very popular outing.

The Club AGM:

For those of you who were unable to attend the recent AGM the minutes of the meeting were as follows:

The meeting opened at 2:00pm. The minutes of the last AGM were accepted with no points arising.
The Chairman (Barbara Clark) made the following points in her report:

  • The demand for trips had reduced this year and we are now trying to get more younger members to participate in club events.
  • There were 37 separate events this year and due to good service Eassons
will remain our preferred supplier for the coming year.
The website continues to make inroads into the direct mails shot which is now down at an all time low of 100 per month.
  • All events are now balloted if demand exceeds supply. This is considered to be fairer than the “first come first served” approach which can disadvantage people in an area of poor postal service.
  • The innovation of a five day trip to Harrogate went very well and will be repeated this year with a trip to Newcastle.
  • The proposed reorganization of the National and Retiree clubs appears to have gone quiet for the moment.
  • The Christmas lunches went well.
  • We are planning to experiment with using our own Blue Badge guides in the coming year rather than using City and Village.
  • Some members of the present committee had indicated that they would stand down at the end of the current year. Barbara highlighted the need for volunteers to join the committee and asked members to consider the possibility.
  • Overall the year went very smoothly and Barbara thanked the Committee for their work, and in particular Chris Marshall for his role as Treasurer.

The Treasurer (Chris Marshall) made the following points in his report:

  • The club finances are sound and Chris briefly outlined the key items in the
    IBM Retired Employee Club
    (South Hants) Branch

    2008 Income & Expenditure statement.
  • Chris explained that the accounts had been audited by David Jones and Graham Churchill this year. The meeting accepted the accounts (proposer Len Davis and seconded by Harry Biden).
  • Chris highlighted various items of interest in the accounts including the deliberate run down of the year end balance, the drop off in interest received, and the increase in the amount received from IBM.

There were no questions submitted prior to the meeting. A question from the floor regarding the balloting of places was addressed by the Chairman.
There were no nominations for additional Committee members for next year and as the existing committee had agreed to continue in their roles for the coming year they were re-elected unanimously.
There being no other business the meeting closed at 2:35pm and following refreshments there was a presentation by David Newman the IBM Pensions Manager.
