Car Parking at North Harbour:

As it is essential that we adhere to our designated parking and do not use any of the other areas of the car park we make no apology for repeating this particular message ad infinitum:

Retirees participating in trips MUST park their cars in either Bay C5 or C6 and nowhere else. Coach marshals will make a point of asking for confirmation before coaches depart, and anyone parked outside these bays will be asked to go and move their car before departure.

For those people unsure of the location of Bays C5 and C6: On entering the North Harbour site follow the site road along the front of the building, get into the right hand lane, and turn right towards the car parks on your right. Keep in the right hand lane and Bay C6 is immediately on your right (easily identified as it has the bike sheds at its lower end). At the T junction at the end turn 180 degrees into Bay C6 – Bay C5 immediately joins it and is accessed by another 180 degree turn at the base of Bay C6. If in doubt ask any Committee member.

Bookings

May we once again please remind members to send a self seal envelope when submitting bookings. Thanks in anticipation …………

Phone Contact

We’re sorry to raise the point once again, but we are still getting members leaving messages on Committee members answer machines. If the Committee member is on holiday or away for a short period that message will be there until they return. If it is about a cancellation then the trip concerned may well go with empty places and the person leaving the message may well not qualify for a refund.

Please do not leave messages – get hold of any other member of the committee – they will be happy to help.

Forthcoming Events:

London Docklands & Cruise:

This is a City and Village Tour

The tour will start on Tooley Street where beneath the handsome warehouses of Hays Wharf between London and Tower Bridges there will be a pause for morning refreshments (at your own expense) in a riverside pub. The morning coach tour charts the history of the Port and the Docks and includes atmospheric Wapping where the men could have found their way around with their eyes shut, led by the smell of the cargoes. Despite a chequered history Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs is thriving. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy in leafy Cabot Square or choose a café or restaurant meal. You’ll see the marbled foyer of the UK’s tallest building and also the vast and impressive Jubilee Line station. In the afternoon you’ll ride the Docklands Light Railway from Canary Wharf to the Cutty Sark and board a boat for a one hour cruise round the Isle of Dogs to the Thames Barrier and back to Greenwich. Refreshments can be purchased on board the boat.
This is a gentle day intended for groups that don’t want to walk too much.

The Houses of Parliament

This is the second opportunity this year to visit the Houses of Parliament. As there are restrictions on numbers we are only able to take one coach so early booking is essential if you want a place. This is a unique opportunity to take a guided tour of both Houses of Parliament and see how government works. You will have a guided tour of both houses and afterwards will have some free time to explore for yourselves. Then after buying lunch, (prices reasonable in the restaurant), see the parade of the speaker before the session in the House of Commons.

The Classic Spectacular:

The Classical Spectacular returns to the Royal Albert Hall with a new programme of more of your favourite music, lights, lasers and special effects.
The show will feature a state of the art lighting rig complete with a stunning light and laser display. A combined cast of over 200 musicians perform a superb programme of some of the world's best loved classical music including brand new pieces as well as all time favourites.

Cross the Channel to Calais & Cite Europe

After a long interval we have decided to run a cross channel trip again this year to allow members to stock up on Christmas goodies. However this year there will be a slight variation on previous trips in that the coach will drop off at the Cite Europe (the large shopping centre at the French end of the Tunnel) and will then continue to drop off in Calais itself for those people who may wish to visit the town and do their shopping there. Don’t forget that for this trip you will need to have a valid passport and we also strongly recommend that you have travel insurance too. We are asking for early bookings for this trip so that we can assess the demand accurately and order coaches appropriately.
