Boulogne
Instead
of Le Touquet we decided to take the option of a day in Boulogne this
year. Boulogne is slightly closer that Le Touquet so the journey in
France will be shorter. It is also much larger and with a lot more to
see and do.
The old walled town has managed to retain the shape of the Roman military
camp set up in the 2nd Century AD. It is a rectangular fortified enclosure
with four gates opening on to the two main streets which cross at the
ancient forum. In addition to this there is the Imperial Palace, The
Belfry (a World Heritage Site), the Basilica of Notre Dame with its
vast crypt, and the rebel castle.
The town also has a host of shops and supermarkets, is the largest fishing
port in France, and also has a spectacular aquarium.
There is an abundance of restaurants catering for all tastes so there
should be no problem in finding something to keep occupied during the
day.
Please
remember to bring along your passports.
